I think it's time for some properly nice weather now, don't you? Let's hope June is going to be a fabulous month in Leiden: there's certainly lots on and lots of new stuff has been happening at HomeinLeiden!
It's just getting better! The Swishing (Clothes Swop) on the 1 st June was a great success: by the end of it we were all practically skipping with joy in our fabulous new (free!) clothes - here we all our with our favourite finds. I was skipping, anyway, but then Doritos have that effect on me. Highlights of the evening were Giulia arriving with an absolutely enormous suitcase of clothes (in my size, hurrah) and the entire room going silent as Jill showed us just how amazing a girl can look in a bright orange suit! Big thanks to Jill for organizing it, and if you missed out this time make sure you come to next season's event!
Monday June 14, 10.15 - 11.15, VKC Langegracht 57, FREE with FREE CHILDCARE!
Hurrah! We can have another taster of the fabulous Swati and her amazing Bollywood dancing before the whole town goes into hiding over the summer. Weekly morning classes should start in September (at amazing VKC rate of €10 for 10 sessions) , and if there's lots of interest Swati will probably start an evening class earlier. Some of us had a go last week and it was so much fun - even if you are hopeless like me it's really inspiring and energetic without being excessive! Do come and join us and have a go!
If you'd like more information, or to confirm that you can come, contact Swati on swati.2gud@gmail.com . Otherwise, just turn up! Bare feet and clothes in which you can be energetic are all that are required...
Marja van Halteren (of the VKC knitting group and www.nordicwool.nl )and HomeinLeiden are organizing this event on the 19 th June, 11-4, on Hooglandsekerkgracht (the tree-lined bit with pebbles just off Oude Rijn). Basically the idea is to out the closet knitters and get us all together, as well as teaching new people to knit and generally having a lovely day sitting under the trees with some drinks and snacks and stuff. We will be knitting squares for a community project, so not only will it be a fun day, but you will be contributing to a communal work (watch this space, it's a surprise!).
Whether you are a practiced knitter, a lapsed knitter or a complete novice, come and join us: if you can, bring your needles and yarn (we will also be providing some some needles and yarn): we will have some chairs and some drinks and snacks, but do bring some more if you can!
If you haven't seen it, do look at our lovely new SCHOOLS section, written by Jessica and Alice, with tons more information and reviews from many of you. If you haven't done a review for your child/ren's school, or have any suggestions etc, please contact Jessica@homeinleiden.nl , as it's the personal reviews that really help people making that tricky choice of choosing the right school.
There is also a new section on EXPAT CENTRE LEIDEN - they are very handy to contact with queries about housing, insurance, tax and all that dull but necessary stuff.
There's also a Georgian Cultural Festival from the 12 th to the 20 th June, with music, dance, workshops and art from the amazing country of Georgia (believe me, it's an amazing place).
As always, check out WHATS ON, and also have a look at www.zomerinleiden.nl for more information.
