HOMEINLEIDEN GOES MULTILINGUAL!

See those smart flags along the top? No, I'm afraid we haven't translated the whole site . but we've done the next best thing. If you would like information in a language other than English, a whole team of experienced international Leidenites has come forward as contact points in their own native languages, ten so far. A big Thank You to all of them! Just click on the relevant flag and you'll find their contact details; they'll be happy to help you out in any way they can. And if you don't see your own native language listed and would like to be the one to add it, please drop Alice a line: alice@homeinleiden.nl.

GET THE NEEDLES OUT!

A date for your diaries: this coming Wednesday 17 th November at the VrouwKind Centrum (Lange Gracht 57) there is a knitting evening in aid of the Save the Children campaign, 'Elk kind telt: Brei een muts voor India'. This ran in the UK and Australia under the title 'Knit one, save one' with the same simple message: small, cheap measures like a woolly hat can, unbelievably, tip the balance between life and death for infants born into the poorest areas of the world, and you can help.

The evening is run by VKC and NordicWool (whose shop is at Hoge Rijndijk 44), who are providing the wool. Bring your own knitting needles and perhaps something good to eat, and get those needles clicking while doing something for a good cause! And even if you can't knit, why not drop in for a cup of tea/coffee and either start learning, or just have a chat and see what else there is going on at the centre?

Read more (in Dutch) on www.breivoorindia.nl and on the evening's flyer here . [link naar pdf] Note that even if you can't make the evening, you can knit a baby hat yourself and drop it off at the VKC, who will arrange for shipping. The HomeinLeiden specialist knitting team is currently seeking out the best pattern and will shortly be posting it here!

And just to remind you: SINTERKLAAS IS COMING!

I know, I know, it's still only November - but the lucky folk of Harderwijk have already seen him arrive, and it's not long until Sinterklaas will be clip-clopping down our very own Breestraat on his trusty steed Amerigo. He arrives in Leiden in his steamboat on the Beestenmarkt next
Saturday (20 th ) at 12pm, and for those of you to whom this is all rather mystifying, do not worry, all will be revealed in a later homepage.
