HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Whether you're returning from visits (far) away, going back to work after a break at home here or just continuing after some days off here and there - we at HomeinLeiden hope that 2013 will bring you good health and happiness. This is a short update for the time being but we shall be back soon with more.

A new lease of life for your Christmas tree?

For the last few years the organisation 'Vrij Groen' has run a gardening initiative on some waste land in the area behind the hospital / Bio Science park in Leiden, and part of this was a Christmas tree garden, where you could bring your (rooted) Christmas tree to wait out the year until it was needed again. That plot is now being built on, but in agreement with the Leiden/Oegstgeest city councils, Vrij Groen moved last October to another plot of land which was temporarily free, where the same activities are going on.

This time the garden is in Nieuw-Rhijngeest, the new housing estate in Oegstgeest on the West side of the A44 which is being built very slowly indeed, and as before, it's occupying an as yet undeveloped site, and will do so for the next two or three years. It's open on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons from 1.30 to 4.30 , so why not take your Christmas tree along and plant it out? Vrij Groen run all sorts of workshops and activities related to gardening, biodiversity and sustainability and are well worth the visit.

The address is Rhijnhofweg and it's on the slice of land opposite number 12; on Google Maps it's called 'Tulpenburg'. Check out www.vrijgroen.nl for more information.

Addition to Childcare lists - Teddy Kids

Clerical error in our copywriting process - oops! We left out Teddy Kids, which have two locations, on the Herenstraat and on the Zeemanlaan in Leiden. They have a large number of international children and are very used to coping with non-native speakers / newcomers to the system etc.. Look in the Childcare section for more information.
