WELCOME HOME

Welcome home everyone! I hope you have had wonderful holidays and that you are happy to be back in our beautiful city.

With the news full of desperate refugees, one way to show our gratitude for our own lives is to help others. And that help is needed NOW!

URGENT - SLEEPING BAGS AND TENTS COLLECTION!

HomeinLeiden's Noeleen O'Hara is driving to Calais on 12 September to deliver tents, sleeping bags and tarpaulins to the refugees currently living there, only 4 hours away from here, in appalling conditions, struggling to survive with dignity. See her facebook page at facebook.

'They forget we are human' is the cry of the dispossessed and desperate people living in 'Camp Jungle'. The filthy conditions where over 3,000 people are living with little access to toilets, showers, sanitary goods and proper protection from the weather is a shocking sight in modern-day Europe.

In the last ten days, Noeleen has collected more than €1000 and a growing stock of tents, tarps and sleeping bags. HomeinLeiden has pledged to collect as many as possible to add to the cause. Do you have a sleeping bag, tent or tarpaulin (complete and undamaged) that you no longer need? Or could you find 10 minutes to go and buy one, and/or ask your neighbours and friends? Email harriet@homeinleiden.nl or ring me on 06 15646137 if you'd like to drop something off at my (or Noeleen's) house; if you'd rather give money directly go to http://www.gofundme.com/ex283nkw to donate.

I'm proud to know that we can pull together on this, and I look forward to hearing from lots of you!

We'll update you soon on the progress here, but follow Leiden's Calais Crisis Collection facebook page.

And we'll be back soon with more Leiden related information!
