Isn't it amazing how quickly children grow out of their clothes? And how you are left with bags of outgrown clothes, and in need of bags of new ones? Surely there ought to be an inexpensive and eco-friendly way of solving this dilemma?
There is! The Leiden Kids' Clothes Swop, held approximately every two months at the Vrouw Kind Centrum (VKC), Langegracht 57. Check the ' What's on this week ' calendar for the date of the next swop!
The Kids' Clothes Swop has been running for a year now, and has proved a great success. Such a success, in fact, that we now have a very full cupboard! As it was never our plan to set up in competition to the kringloop winkel, our strategy has changed.
How it works
If you want to join in, send an email to noeleen@homeinleiden.nl so we have an idea of numbers/requirements. Check 'What's On This Week' for the date of the next Swop. Then assemble the clothes that you have. Please think quality rather than quantity: items that are stained, damaged, or frankly a bit manky aren't really very appealing. One nice pair of trousers is better than a whole bag full of stained t shirts. Bring your clean, good-quality items with you on the night, or if you just want to be rid of them arrange to drop them off by emailing noeleen@homeinleiden.nl .
On the evening itself, we will lay the items out and we can have a friendly free-for all! Differences in children's sizes and taste should prevent this from causing bloodshed. Hopefully everyone should come away with something they like for their children. Obviously, this depends on what others have brought, but it usually works out, especially for the smaller sizes. Larger sizes are particularly desired, so for parents of older children, do think about what you have lurking in your closets! If you just want to be rid of them, you can drop them off at Harriet's house: please email harriet@homeinleiden.nl .
The evenings are relaxed, informal and fun, and are also a chance to meet other parents. We provide wine and cookies, but any edible contributions are most welcome!
