Where to find information about schools?

We've provided a list of area schools by neighborhood/area of Leiden along with a write up of some schools from the perspective of an international parent. If you'd like to contribute your own perspective on any of the schools, please send something to jessica@homeinleiden.nl and we'll add it.

The Leiden city government has recently launched a website: www.leiden.nl/schoolkeuze.

It is all in Dutch so might not be incredibly helpful to parents who don't read the language well. The postcode search function wasn't accurate when I tried it, but hopefully these hiccups will be worked out soon. That being said, it does list all area schools and has links to each school's individual website.

"Objective" information regarding the quality of the school is available at: www.onderwijsinspectie.nl.

The entire site is in Dutch except for a brief introduction to the Dutch educational system which is in English. However, even if you don't read Dutch, you can probably get a feel for how the Ministry of Education ranks each school by the handy + or - symbol. If you open the inspection report for a school, the last few pages usually have numeric grades (1-4 or 5) for various categories so you can get something of an idea for how the school is doing according to Ministry criteria.
